It is also the first recording to feature guitarist Nick Martin (Cinematic Sunrise) who replaces former guitarist Jesse Lawson. Madness was preceded by the lead single "Kick Me" as well as a series of digital singles released in the days leading up to the album's release. The album continued the band's development to a more pop pop sound, but retained some post-hardcore influence on the track.

Background and recording
After releasing the band's third studio album, Feel (2013), they toured the world to support this album. In May 2014, the band posted that they were in a studio in Nashville, Tennessee and recorded 13 songs with Nick Raskulinecz, but later deleted them and recorded new material for their fourth album in Los Angeles, California. In June, Quinn posted a new song clip online. The band recorded a total of 15 new songs with producer John Feldmann. Quinn explains, "We just plan on going to Feldmann to do 2 or 3 songs and once we get in there, I'm like, 'we'll do all this again.' Two bonus tracks, "Parasites" and "2 Chord" are produced by Raskulinecz.

Sound and effect
Madness is a pop rock album with punk and hardcore influences. According to a review by Radio.com, the album has "empowering lyrics and song songs like singing" and "big, emotional, and talking directly to discontented youth and others who have been told they will never be anything. " Due to the fact that the recording sessions of the album took place all the time where Sleep with Sirens was not signed to a record label and had little money, frontman Kellin Quinn said "it's always chaotic and madness and just stuck in the middle of it and find out who you are in the middle all madness. "

Critical reception
The album received generally positive reviews from professional music critics. According to Metacritic's aggregate review, the album received 74 out of 100 based on 6 reviews, citing "generally positive reviews".
Radio.com Editor Jay Tilles speaks of the album's third single, "The Strays" in a commentary that states: "Of the 13 songs of the album, the sixth song" The Strays "stands out like a sore thumb, with lyrics and songs that empower Chorus-the -underdogs, very large, emotional, and talking directly to dissatisfied youths and others who have been told that they will never mean anything. "Lost and discarded/you know us better than that," sang Kellin Quinn, frontman band, his deceptive tenor cheats that have become one of the bands defining the sound. "
Branan Ranjanathan for Exclaim! is more negative, feels his album has no cohesiveness, writes: "With their latest album, Sleeping With Sirens has been trying to attract every group that's ever been interested in their special sound, creating a series of confusing and irregular songs that do not have definite direction For years, the sound of the band has shifted from post-hardcore directly into something more accessible to pop audiences, but Madness is a chaotic attempt to combine both sounds in one album. "
This album included at number 25 on Rock Sound ' Top 50 releases from the 2015 list. Madness nominated for Album Of The Year at 2016 Alternative Press Music Awards.
