Plot
George Banks (Steve Martin) is the owner of a successful athletic shoe company called Side Kicks in San Marino, California. Her 22-year-old daughter Annie (Kimberly Williams), who recently graduated from college, returned from Europe, announcing that she was engaged to Bryan MacKenzie (George Newbern), a man from an upper-class family from Bel-Air, although they only knew each other during six months. The sudden shocks turned a warm reunion into a bitter quarrel between George and Annie, but they soon reconciled in time for Bryan to come and meet them. Although Bryan has good financial status and a pleasant attitude, George immediately dislikes him, while his wife, Nina (Diane Keaton), accepts him as a future son-in-law. George did not want to let go of his daughter.
George and Nina meet with Bryan's parents, John and Joanna MacKenzie. Although George was comforted by John also expressed how surprised he was at Bryan's engagement, he quickly got into trouble as he started to approach and eventually fell into the pool when cornered by the ferocious MacKenzies Dobermans pet. All is forgiven, however, and the Bank meets an eccentric European wedding coordinator, Franck Eggelhoffer (Martin Short) and his assistant, Howard Weinstein (B. D. Wong), where George soon begins to complain about the price of luxury wedding items. The high price, $ 250 per head, plus the issue of wedding invitations began to take their toll on George and he became a little crazy. The last straw happened when his wrong size suit, which he had tried to wear, tore when he bent his back. He left home to calm himself, but ultimately caused disruption in the supermarket. Disgusted by paying for things he does not want, he starts removing hot dog buns from his 12-bun package to fit the 8-dog hot dog pack. He is finally arrested, but Nina arrives to release her on condition that she stop ruining the marriage.
With the help of Nina and Franck, George became more relaxed and received marriage, especially when Annie and Bryan received a rather expensive gift from a big family member, but the wedding plans were postponed when they had a row over the blender he gave her. as a gift, which gets worse when she refuses to believe her story about George's antics at her parents' house when she falls in the pool. George invites Bryan out for a drink, initially intending to get rid of him forever, but looking at his sad face and sincere claim that he loves Annie, George changes his mind and finally accepts it. She confesses to Annie that what happened at the MacKenzies home was true, and she and Bryan made peace.
Despite some last minute problems with the weather, the wedding was finally ready, almost a year after Bryan and Annie's first encounter. They were married and the reception was held at home, though the nosy police officers objected to the number of cars parked on the street. Unfortunately, George misses Annie to throw her bouquet and can not see it before she and Bryan go for their honeymoon in Hawaii. However, Annie calls him from the airport to thank him and tells him that he loved her the last time before they boarded the plane.
With the now empty home and the wedding complete, George finds entertainment with Nina and dances with her.
