St. Joseph's Indian School is an American Indian settlement school, located in Chamberlain, South Dakota, United States. Founded in 1927 by Henry Hogebach, a Roman Catholic priest from Germany. This school is owned and operated by the Priest of the Sacred Heart.

The school was founded as a Catholic mission school in 1927 by German Roman Catholics. Owned and operated by Priest of the Sacred Heart, non-Native American. As a boarding school, she provides dormitories for various Native American children, mainly from reservations Lakota and Sioux in the Great Plains. The school was originally directed to assimilate Native American children to the majority of US culture, influenced by European traditions. They are encouraged (or forced) to speak English and practice Catholicism.
In the 21st century, about 200 Native American children attended boarding schools. Students today live in family style group homes with other students.

Fundraising
In 2010, St. Joseph has been researched for some issues related to fund-raising practices. In 2013 the school failed to meet the standards of give.org for charity liability.
By 2014 it is the subject of an investigative report by CNN and Indian Country Today . The school sends mass mailings featuring the offer of dreams made in China and the fictitious and emotional letters from the absent students. This tactic has been called, "the worst of pornography poverty." Cooper goes on to report, "A school run by non-Indians increases the wealth of racial stereotypes."
In 2014 the school's lawyers say Indian Country Today that they will "never, ever" send more fictitious letters. But by 2015, the school continues an aggressive direct mail campaign, sending tens of millions of pieces of junk mail each year.
Schools have been criticized by the Better Business Bureau for sending letters claiming that they do not have enough funds to heat up schools. At the time of this claim, schools had millions of dollars free to spend.
