Cafeteria Morrison is a chain of cafeteria-style restaurants, located in the Southeast United States with concentrated locations in Georgia and Florida. Generally found in malls, Morrison's main competition is Piccadilly Cafeterias. It's very popular in Florida, with a high proportion of retirees. At its peak, the company is a symbol of good Southern cuisine and operates 151 restaurants under the name Morrison in 13 states.

The company started as a single cafeteria opened in 1920 in Mobile, Alabama by J. A. Morrison. Morrison helped develop the concept of canteen dining, which was unique at the time and then characterized South America in the South. Over 100 meals are prepared daily "homemade". In 1950 the company has 17 locations in Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, and Florida, with the majority in Florida.

Morrison continued to expand throughout the Southeast over the next two decades, eventually becoming the nation's largest cafeteria chain. After winning a contract to serve the cast and film crew of Earth's Biggest Show, Morrison branches into a catering contract for schools, including state universities such as Florida State University in Tallahassee, Stetson University in DeLand, corporate dining facilities, and hospital.

Efforts to diversify into non-feeding businesses in 1960 were less successful, and the companies were sold in the early 1980s by new management. In 1982, Morrison acquired 15 units of Ruby Tuesday. The company uses this acquisition to launch other casual eating concepts, such as L & amp; N Seafood Grill, Silver Spoon Cafà ©  ©, Mozzarella's, and Tia's Tex-Mex. He also acquired three other food contracting companies.

In the mid-1990s, the concept of a new restaurant - especially Ruby Tuesday - did much better than the original cafeteria chain, because customer expectations and tastes had changed. Because of this, Morrison decided to divide the company into three new companies: Morrison's Fresh Cooking, a chain of cafeterias; Ruby Tuesday, Inc., which also includes other casual dining concepts; and Morrison Health Care, which took over the contract of food for the hospital (previous education and business contracts have been sold to competitors). Morrison Health Care is now part of the Compass Group.

In 1998, Fresh Cooking Morrison - unable to withstand the loss of popularity of cafeterias in general - was sold to Piccadilly Cafeterias. Piccadilly has since shut down many former Morrison locations outside Florida and Georgia.

Piccadilly - which underwent Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in 2012 and has reduced its footprint to 49 locations in February 2016 - maintaining a branded location as Fresh Cooking Morrison in the former Mobile chain.
