" This is My Life " is a song by the new wave band in English Talk Talk. Written by Mark Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene, it was the title song on the band's second album and was released as the first single in January 1984. It reached # 46 on the UK charts but better in some other countries, reaching # 33 in Germany, # 32 in New Zealand, # 25 in France and # 7 in Italy. It was also successful in North America, entering the Top 40 in the United States (# 31) and Canada (# 30). (Specifically, it peaked at # 1 on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart.)

The single was re-released in the UK in 1985, but this time it was only # 93. However, in 1990, "It's My Life" was re-published to promote the compilation album Natural History: The Best Talk Talk. This time, the song became a hit in the UK, reaching # 13, the band's highest single-chart in the country of origin.

The song is also featured in the Rockstar Games video game for PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 2 Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories on the radio station 'Flash FM'. This is also one of the songs played during play for Activision Anthology for PlayStation 2. The song is featured on Saints Row: The Third on the radio station 'The Mix 107.77'.

Video musik

There are two versions of the video for "It's My Life". The first, pictured by director Tim Pope as a statement against the superficiality of lip sync, is almost entirely made up of recordings of wildlife documentaries, interspersed with shots from Talk Talk singer Mark Hollis standing in various places throughout London Zoo. He keeps his hands in the pocket of his suit and his mouth tightly closed, the latter often obscured by the animated lines that sometimes appear in documentary footage as well.

The second version, recorded on EMI's command, consists of all original video projected on a green screen behind Hollis on guitar and vocals as well as two bandmates as they sync and mimic songs, deliberately with bad and with excessive comic gestures.

Unambiguous Version

American ska band No Doubt recorded a cover version of the song to promote their first hits album The Singles 1992-2003 (2003). Because the band was on hiatus, while vocalist Gwen Stefani recorded her solo debut album, they decided to record the cover so there was no need to write a new song. Finally, after the band listened to hundreds of songs from the 1980s, they narrowed it down to two competitors - "It's My Life" and "Do not Change" by the Australian rock band INXS ("A Question of Lust" by the British electronics band Depeche Mode other close competitors). No Doubt hesitated about recording the cover and contemplating writing new material. However, they decided on "It's My Life" after practicing the song with producer Nellee Hooper, calling it a "feel-good" song. No Doubt's version of "It's My Life" was nominated for Best Pop Performance by Duo or Group with Vocal at the 47th Grammy Awards. Jacques Lu Cont, the song programmer, created a mixture of Thin White Duke from "It's My Life", which won the award for Best, Non-Classical Remix Record.

This version is featured in the video game Karaoke Revolution Volume 2 . On December 9, 2008 it is also available as downloadable content for the Rock Band series.

The American Recording Industry Association certifies GGold digital downloads to sell 500,000 copies.

Music videos

The 1930s music video for the song was directed by David LaChapelle. In the video, Stefani describes a black widow whose appearance is similar to actress Jean Harlow (photographed by Stefani in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator), who was tried and sentenced to death for the murder. from three men he knew, described by other band members. He killed the first person (guitarist Tom Dumont) with rat poison mixed into his dinner, the second (bassist Tony Kanal) by running it with his car, and third (drummer Adrian Young) by throwing his hair into the bath to shock him. These scenes were interrupted with Stefani's moments in court and dragged into a gas chamber dressed in a prison uniform in which she was executed. The video ends with three possible murder victims in the afterlife, laughing at his television execution.

The music video was quite successful in the video graphics program. On MTV's Total Request Live , it hit number 7 in November 2003 and on countdown at the end of January 2004. The video reached number 8 on MuchMusic's Countdown and remained in the program until March 2004. At the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards, "It's My Life" won the award for Best Group Video and Best Pop Video. It also received nominations for Best Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Art Direction.
