Vivanne Griffin, who completed her divorce with ex-husband Anthony Griffin - a successful stockbroker, has moved on with his grandmother, Mable "Madea" Simmons. Madea did not like Anthony at all. Madea just got home from the hospital because she had diabetes. Another assistant Madea is Bobby Mitchell, a stranger who has just been released from prison for 12 years for possessing medical supplies - although, according to him, it is his two older brothers and since he is the youngest they tell me he says it is hers and he did it. Bobby is a Madea builder and usually cuts his grass and both Madea and Vivanne really think he's interesting. Vivanne wanted to admit it.
Vivanne's sister, Maylee, and her fourteen-year-old daughter, Keisha, also live with Madea. When Maylee was very young about Keisha's age, her mother wanted money for drugs. So her mother put her in a room with a man who pays to do whatever she wants to Maylee. As a result, Maylee is pregnant and has Keisha. Keisha hates her mother for the way she acts and has never been there for her. When Maylee appeared in Keisha's school in a miniskirt, Keisha felt ashamed. Then, Maylee comes home with a new car Anthony Griffin buys, and announces he's getting married to Vivanne's ex-husband!
Keisha is still upset with her mother. When her mother tried to help her homework, Anthony called and Maylee ran to him. (Child Without Mother)
Cora Simmons, Madea's daughter, arrives and announces she lives with her mother. He mentioned he only stayed for the weekend, because he lives outside the city. Keisha confessed to Aunt Cora and told her the kids at school bullied her except for one kid, Kelly.
Madea's next door neighbor, Leroy S. Brown, whom everyone calls Mr. Brown had Madea's letters. Mr. Brown says hi to Cora, whom he has not seen in a long time. Madea thought Anthony had betrayed Vivanne because there was no way they would get engaged so soon. Vivanne agreed.
As everyone prepares to eat at Madea's house, Bobby takes a shower and has to go downstairs to pick up soap. First Bobby and Vivanne flirt with each other and then Madea tries to flirt with her but he will not buy it. Madea can say Vivanne likes Bobby. Mr. Brown came back to eat at Madea's house and brought in a dish to share. Everyone had a little fun before dinner. (Old Time Mix) Madea put two cents on it. Anthony began to insult Vivanne, but Vivanne would not stand with him. He pulled the knife at Anthony scared everyone. Everyone tried to calm Vivanne and make her feel better, but nothing seemed to work except when Cora talked to her.
Bobby continues to flirt with Vivanne, and he tells his story of how he was put in jail. While walking upstairs, Vivanne informs Bobby that he's not ready for a relationship yet. (Let Me Hug You)

Maylee gets a call from a school nurse about Keisha. Anthony told Maylee that he had to pick him or her daughter, not both because he said he was a teenager who was out of control. When Keisha arrives at Maylee's house tells her to put her things down and they will go to the clinic because Keisha is pregnant from Kelly (one of her friends), but Kelly and Maylee want her to have an abortion. Cora tried to stop him, but Maylee would not have it. Maylee told Cora about the Maylee man, her mother let whatever she wanted, the end result of Keisha. Maylee forces Keisha out of the house and Cora is left alone to pray for Keisha. (Grace)
Madea gets a call from Eric Jones offering Bobby a job and when Bobby and Vivanne return from a date, Madea delivers the message. When Maylee and Keisha returned from the clinic, Madea had heard about Cora's abortion and was angry with Keisha for being pregnant, and Maylee suggested abortion.
Vivanne tries to make Maylee understand that Anthony does not love her. He just married her to return to Vivanne. Maylee did not believe in Vivanne; But Madea did it. Bobby told everyone he was offered a job in California as Head Foreman, but he was reluctant to accept it.
Vivanne and Bobby forced Madea up as they talked about their future. Bobby wanted marriage and children, etc., but Vivanne did not want that now. As they spoke, the doorbell rang and it was Mr. Brown. Mr. Brown is angry at Madea for giving her sleeping pills. They fought all out friendly.
The next day, Bobby packed his bag to move to California. Anthony tried to change Bobby against Vivanne by saying that all he would do was sleep and eat. Bobby told Anthony Vivanne never loved him. Anthony told Bobby that he would move to California because if he stayed here; then Anthony will call his probation officer and send him back to jail. Anthony also told Bobby that he had gone to school with Bobby's probation officer.
Police sirens were heard and Madea walked inside the house. Apparently Madea and Maylee got their nails in the nail salon, when one of the employees started talking about Madea. The employee called Madea Godzilla, so he shot the nail salon and ran like hell to the house. Maylee came back from behind the fingernail nail salon at Madea for what she did.
Bobby was debating whether to stay or go to California. Vivanne told him to follow his conscience. Bobby realizes that he really wants to stay with Vivanne even though he's not ready for a relationship now. However, Bobby still walked out the door and headed for California. Madea told Vivanne that she should chase after her husband. Then, after a few minutes of hesitation, Vivanne decides to chase after Bobby before he leaves. But as soon as Vivanne opened the door, Bobby stood there. He never left. Bobby went inside and suggested to Vivanne. Under the direction of Madea, Vivanne said yes!
Before Vivanne drove Madea to the casino, Madea made sure Maylee did not try to steal Bobby, or try to play with her. The women leave. Maylee congratulates Bobby even though he is jealous of Vivanne. Cora did not understand why and eventually got Maylee to see the brighter side. Finally, Maylee and Keisha make and embrace. (This Will Be Hallelujah)
Then on that day, Maylee took Anthony's bag down and she told her she was going home alone because she left her. After Anthony left, Maylee apologized to everyone for everything. (Lord I'm Sorry) Cora reminds Maylee to always be there for her daughter. (Talkin 'Properrr/Bye Baby)
And with that Bobby and Vivanne get married, Mr. Browns survived, and for Madea, he was alive.

Movie Adaptation
An adaptation film titled "I Can Do Bad All By Myself", was released on September 11, 2009.
This film has a completely different storyline from the drama. The only thing that stays the same is the title. Nevertheless, Tyler Perry appears as Madea.
