The Hall of Fame of Delaware Women was founded in 1981 by the Delaware for Women Commission, a division of the Delaware State Secretary. Hall of fame recognizes the achievements and contributions of Delaware women in various fields and includes activists, artists, athletes, military personnel and scientists.
The Delaware for Women Commission is a state institution with members appointed by the Governor representing Wilmington and each of the three counties of Delaware (New Castle, Kent and Sussex). In making choices for the Hall of Fame, the Commission prioritizes civil rights, economic empowerment, violence prevention, women's health, employment, family, recognition and celebration. Eligible women must be born in Delaware or living in the state for at least ten years.
