Fourball is a play format in golfing. It's also known as the best ball or rather better ball .
In stroke play competitions, competitors are paired and play as a team. Each golfer plays their own ball, with a lower score on each hole calculated. Only one of the pair needed to finish each hole. The winners are the team with the lowest aggregate score above a number of holes. Since 2017 this format, along with foursomes has been used by Zurich Classic on PGA Tour.
In the competition to play the game, four balls consist of two teams of two players who compete directly with each other. The four golfers play their own ball throughout the round instead of taking turns, and each hole is won by a team whose members have the lowest score. This golf form is usually played in a team golf competition such as Ryder Cup, Solheim Cup, and Presidents Cup.
