Aquarium fish feed - Wikipedia

Aquarium fish baits are plants or animals intended for consumption by pet fish stored in an aquarium or pond. Fish foods usually contain macronutrients, trace elements and vitamins needed to keep fish healthy. About 80% of fishkeeping enthusiasts feed their fish exclusively prepared foods that are most often produced in the form of flakes, pellets or tablets. The forms of pellets, which are partially submerged rapidly, are often used for larger fish or feeding species such as loaches or catfish. Some fish foods also contain additives such as sex hormones or beta carotene to increase the color of ornamental fish artificially.

Processed foods

Processed foods are non-living foods and made by aquarist or purchased prepared for fish consumption.

Dried food

Flake foods are an artificially owned or artificially owned fish type consumed by a variety of tropical fish and saltwater and invertebrates. It is particularly suitable for upper occupants and freshwater fish although many species live under consuming flake foods after finishing at the bottom. Food flakes are baked to remove moisture, ensuring longer shelf life. Generally the more water vapor contained in fish food samples, the easier the quality will decrease.

Dry foods are also available as pellets, sticks, tablets, granules, and wafers, made to float or drown, depending on the species designed to feed.

Holiday food

Food holidays, also known as "food blocks" (or "weekend blocks" for smaller versions), are designed to be placed in an aquarium to not eat when the owner is not there. These blocks release small amounts of food as they dissolve. Food blocks can be a good choice for smaller tropical fish, but can contaminate water if the tank is ignored for too long.

Fishfood medication

Fishfood medication is a safe and effective method for sending drugs to fish. One of the advantages is that foods containing drugs do not contaminate the aquatic environment and also, unlike bath treatments, do not negatively affect fish, filtration and algal growth in aquariums. The parasite will get a place with medicinal food, because the fish swallows it.

Frozen-dried and frozen fish

Frozen-dried and frozen fish foods are mainly developed for tropical fish and sea fish and are useful in providing a variety of food or special needs from several species. These include tubifex worms, mosquito larvae, blood worms, water fleas ( Daphnia and Cyclops spp.) Together with brine shrimp ( Artemia salina ).

Frozen fish food

Easily damaged foods can be stored with frozen storage, and are often sold in blister packs or partially closed packages. These can contain various ingredients such as bloodworm, Daphnia, or saltwater shrimp, and are usually used to feed fish like Discus that require a high protein diet. Often fed on beef fish in the cultivation industry, discus fish are not the only fish that can benefit from a frozen mix of high quality frozen cow's hearts, though so far these fish are most associated with this particular frozen food.

Live food

Live fish foods include earthworms, mudworms, water fleas, blood worms, and fish feeders. Foods for larvae and young fish include infusoria (Protozoa and other microorganisms), freshly hatched shrimp and microworms. This is the most preferred type of food for fish, but it is difficult to obtain. However, frozen forms of earthworms, tubifex etc are available now.

Quality fish ingredients

Fish food should ideally provide fish with fat (for energy) and amino acids (protein building blocks) and fish food (whether flakes or pellets) should be quickly digested to prevent the buildup of intestinal gas, kidney failure and infection (such as swim and basal swim problems ) and to avoid aquarium pollution due to excessive ammonia. The water diets for carnivores should contain vegetable materials such as spirulina.

Building blocks of fish ingredients

  • Amino acids are the basic components of proteins. Protein requirements vary by species. Carnivorous fish require a greater percentage of proteins than herbivores. An example of aquatic diet which is a good source of amino acids is boiled eggs boiled roughly offered to small fish. Large amounts of DL-Methionine enhance the direct growth of Lionhead carp.
  • Fat that is broken down into fatty acids is a major source of energy in fish especially for the heart and skeletal muscles. Fats also help in the absorption of vitamins. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are soluble in fat or can only be digested, absorbed, and transported with fat.
  • Carbohydrates are molecular substances that include sugars, starches, gums and cellulose. Most of the carbohydrates incorporated into the aquatic diet come from plants and are the source of the amylase enzyme. Carbohydrates, however, are not a source of energy that is superior to fish than protein or fat but carbohydrates are digested to do protein reserves for tissue formation. Unlike in mammals, glycogen is not a significant storehouse of energy in fish.

Fish food sources

  • Fish meal (protein source) has two basic types: (a) generated from fishery waste associated with fish processing for human consumption (such as salmon and tuna) and (b) originating from certain fish (herring , menhaden and pollack) are harvested solely for the purpose of producing fish meal.
  • A mixture of shrimp (shrimp flour) is made from cull shrimp that is being processed before it is frozen or from whole shrimps that do not fit the quality for human consumption. The material to be made into shrimp flour is dried (dried or dried) and then ground. Shrimp meal is a source of pigment which increases the desired color in fish tissue. It is also a secondary source of secondary protein for fish.
  • Eating squid is made up of squid offal parts from canneries including eggs and testes. Squid Meal is a highly digestible protein source for fish that provides a variety of amino acids, vitamins, minerals and cholesterol (1.0-1.5%) cholesterol suitable for fish and young fish.
  • Saltwater shrimp (adult Artemia ) is a common food source for fish available in adult forms, such as eggs or freeze dried. Salted saltwater is a source of protein, carotene (color enhancer) and acts as a natural laxative in the digestive system of fish. Saltwater prawns can also supply fish with vegetables because of the consumption of algae.
  • Soy foods are a high protein source for fish and have become a substitute for the traditional marine food used.
  • Spirulina is a blue-green plant plankton rich in raw protein, vitamin A, B 1 , B 2 , B 6 , B 12 , C and E, beta-carotene, color enhancing pigments, various minerals, essential fatty acids, and eight amino acids required for complete nutrition.
  • Whole wheat (carbohydrates) is not the best source of energy in fish but is an excellent source of feed for fish such as Goldfish and Koi. It is also a natural source of vitamin E that promotes growth and improves color.
