How about the stubs?

Where you basically outline what needs to be filled. ~ Ender 2003-04-27 19:50 MST

When is filled is the time to introduce paragraph breaks. Leaving pent-up sentences is a lazy way to write a stub, it's pretty easy to write a stub that is read as a complete article even if it's 3 sentences. When more materials are added contributors can easily introduce paragraphs as necessary. Wikipedia articles can (and should) be more or less stand-alone and properly formatted even if short and incomplete at any development stage. anything . --Lexor | Talk 00:05, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Why waste time readers by saying something in 80 or more words when the same information can be summarized into a dozen or 20 words? Perhaps the actual lazy writing is to use too many words or too many sentences in a paragraph instead of taking the time to get rid of unneeded phrases and keep thinking in order for readers to better understand concepts and facts. All I have to condense unnecessary phrase removal, etc. The guide is not about the nine individual sentences, it's about sentence groups. There are some articles or article sections that are mostly single sentence collections with no coherent structure, which is a paragraph point. This is a version of the page that has too many sentences in a paragraph and needs consolidation, and here's my edit. Avoid such situations is the purpose of the guidelines. -Lexor | Talk 14:47, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Disputed

This style guide is based on personal tastes and opinions with little factual research supporting them.

In remembering that Wikipedia is not paper, we should also remember that the writing rules for printed pages do not always apply to the Internet.

I suggest editors follow their instincts and push paragraphs one sentence where they seem right. Davodd 11:54, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Sure, there are good times, there are no arguments there, but it's good to refactor an article in excess in a single sentence. Wikipedia is not a paper, but it's more in terms of no limit on the number of different articles not on the basic rules of constructing paragraphs, also keep in mind the paper version is a possibility. --Lexor | Talk 14:47, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Okay, I found the first paragraph (avoid 1 sentence paras !!) annoying and possibly contradictory. I found the second (do not depend too much on 1 sentence phrase, tips to avoid) fewer dictatorships. Why not cut out the first paragraph? --Twinxor 19:46, Oct 2, 2004 (UTC)
User: Twinxor recording sounds reasonable to me. There is no doubt in my mind that many of the sentence paragraphs give a strange layout. But from time to time, they are just what is needed. jguk 18:38, Oct 31, 2004 (UTC)

Proposal to consolidate suggestions on writing better articles

There are currently many articles in the Wikipedia namespace that try to provide guidance on how to write better articles. I propose consolidating this into a much smaller amount. On User: Jongarrettuk/Better writing guide I propose how this can be consolidated. The suggestion is not to change the suggestion, just to consolidate it. If I accidentally moved what you consider to be a good suggestion that currently exists in the Wikipedia namespace, re-add it. I hope that the proposal to incorporate all these articles, in principle, will be welcomed. Of course, it may be preferable to have 2, 3 or 4 interconnected articles rather than just one and would welcome suggestions on how this can be done. (In particular, maybe all the layout guides should be split into one consolidated article in the layout.) I'm also aware that placing many different bits of advice together can cause anomalies or bits that are now unmanageable (including bits that I itself does not agree with :)). I am asking for support for consolidation. After consolidation occurs, suggestions can be changed in the normal way. Feel free to improve consolidation of current concepts, but do not delete or add suggestions that are not currently available in the Wikipedia namespace. If all goes well, I'll add a new Wikipedia: Guide to writing better article pages on the 19th, though maybe some parts of the new article will need to be phased in a longer period of time. I will also be careful to preserve all archived discussions in one place. jguk 19:52, 11 Nov 2004 (UTC)
