The Three Wolves Month T-shirt, created by The Mountain Corporation, gained in popularity after attracting sarcastic reviews on Amazon.com that linked great powers with it, such as making the wearer unbearable to women, striking fear into another man, and having healing abilities magical. This review is made primarily by members of Misc Bodybuilding.com. Brian Govern, a law student at Rutgers University, was looking for a schoolbook on Amazon and was brought to The Three Wolf Moon T-shirts by Amazon's recommendations that had been targeted at students who bought college semester books. He decides to write a review about his shirt because he does not really have that shirt. His serious imitations as "Bee-Dot-Govern" in November 2008 concluded:

Pro : In accordance with my girthy frame, have a wolf on it, attract women

Cons : Only 3 wolves (may use some more on 'weapons'), can not see wolves when seated with arms crossed, wolves would be better off if they glow in the dark.

Since this original review was posted, over 2300 similar reviews have been posted. Some reviewers have uploaded pictures showing famous people wearing the shirts.

The shirt attracted further interest when it became viral on networking sites like Digg and Facebook and was then praised in conventional media as an Internet phenomenon. German scholar Melvin Haack considers it a famous example of a redneck joke. The review has been included in the online sarcasm research. Such sarcasm tends to disrupt the analysis of customer reviews so that the texts have been analyzed to determine which elements can identify sarcasm. One common example found in n-gram analysis is "alpha male".

The shirt is produced by The Mountain Corporation, a clothing wholesale company in Keene, New Hampshire, United States. Their art director, Michael McGloin, says that they are making more shirts in response to the huge demand that makes it a bestseller in the Amazon clothing store. Due to the success of the shirt, the Economic Development Division of New Hampshire made it "the official shirt of New Hampshire economic development" and was awarded as a gift for innovation.

Parodies and attributes

A similar shirt featuring Cat Keyboard instead of wolves has been produced on the T-shirt design site, Threadless. In July 2009, this was the highest design there.
