California Southern University is a private university that started operations in 1978. It offers undergraduate, master, and doctoral programs 100% online in psychology, criminal justice, nursing, law and education. Recently California Southern University has begun a campus program in business administration including bachelor, master, and doctoral level. However, applicants can still study in online mode and on campus. Applicants may also apply for an F1 visa to study on campus. California Southern University is located in Costa Mesa, California. It is not to be confused with Southern California College in Costa Mesa, California, a comprehensive independent institution founded in 1920 and affiliated with the Assemblies of God.

Histori
The University was founded in California on December 27, 1978, by Dr. Donald Hecht as a traditional correspondence school, and received preliminary approval to offer a degree course from the California Department of Education. Initially offering an associate level program, then extended to a bachelor's, master's and doctorate degree. During the 1990s, the university added distance learning courses in business, psychology and law. Universities are now recognized as online degree-granting agencies.
Until June 2007, the university is called University of Southern California for Professional Studies and is located in Anaheim, California.

Accreditation and approval
California Southern University offers doctoral degrees, master's and professional doctoral degrees fully online without any physical presence on campus. It is regionally accredited by the Association of Schools and Western Colleges (WASC). The WASC Senior College and the University Commission ("Commission") is a regional accrediting agency serving a diverse membership of public and private higher education institutions throughout California, Hawaii, and the Pacific as well as a number of agencies outside the US through peer review work, based on standards agreed by membership, the Commission encourages continuous institutional improvement and ensures its membership and constituency, including the public, that accredited institutions fulfill their mission in service to their students and the public good.
The WASC University Senior Commission and Commission are recognized by the US Department of Education as certifying institutional eligibility for federal funding in a number of programs, including student access to federal financial assistance. The university has also received ACBSP accreditation by 2018.
A baccalaureate degree in nursing and a master's degree in nursing at California Southern University is a new applicant who pursue early accreditation by the Collegiate Nursing Education Commission (CCNE).
California Southern University is licensed to operate in California by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education.
Membership
California Southern University is a member of the Private Associated Private Schools of California (CAPPS), and "Silver Sponsors" at the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA). Its School of Business is an "Educational Member" of the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

Most Popular Programs: California Southern University offers 12 degree programs and 10 post-bachelor certificate programs. The most popular programs are master's degrees in business and psychology, and Doctor of Psychology and Doctor of Business Administration.
School of Behavioral Sciences
The California State Council of Psychology received a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) from California Southern University to meet the educational requirements for a license to practice as a clinical psychologist.
The Board of Behavioral Sciences in the state of California receives a Master of Arts degree from California Southern University in Psychology (MA) as a fulfillment of educational requirements for licensing as Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT), as well as licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPCC) Professional in California.
Faculty of Law
The California Southern University Law School is an unaccredited correspondence law school that offers two graduate-level degrees, a Master of Science in Law (MSL) and a Juris Doctor (J.D.). The school is registered with the Bar Bar Judgment Committee of the State Bar of California as "The School of Non-Accredited Certified Registered Law", sufficient to qualify its graduates to take the Bar California exam provided they complete 864 hours of preparation and four-year study. A typical JD degree in an accredited institution is three years. Not registered or accredited by the American Bar Association.
Bar Pass Pass Examination
In the July administration of the Bar California Examination in 2015, two of the first two takers passed the exam, with a 100 percent graduation rate. For 2008 to 2013, 20 graduates have taken the California Bar Examination as first-time takers; of that amount, five passed the exam for a pass rate of 25 percent.
