SaÃÆ'ºl ÃÆ''ÃÆ'guez EsclÃÆ'¡pez ( Spanish pronunciation: Ã, [sa'ul '? me? e?] born November 21, 1994), known only as SaÃÆ'ºl , is a Spanish professional footballer who plays for Atlà © tico Madrid as a central or defensive midfielder.

Club career
Born in Elche, Alicante, Valencian Community, SaÃÆ'ºl moved to Atlà © tico Madrid in 2008 at the age of 13, having started in the youth team of neighboring Real Madrid. He made his senior debut in 2010-11, coming up with a reserve in the third division, and his first goal came in a 3-1 away win against Extremadura UD on 10 April 2011, the only season at the end of the season.
In the summer of 2011, SaÃÆ'ºl joined the main Atlántico squad for pre-season training. On July 10, he scored twice in a 19-1 friendly victory over Arcangel's CD.
On March 8, 2012, at the age of just 17 years and 108 days, SaÃÆ'ºl made his official debut with the first team of Colchoneros, playing the last six minutes of the UEFA Europa League game against Be? Ikta? JK (3-1 home win, 6-1 aggregate). Their second appearance takes place on September 20, again as a substitute and in the Europa League, this time against Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC; three days later he scored twice for Atlà © tico Tico B, in a 2-1 away derby victory over Real Madrid C.
SaÃÆ'ºl made his La debut on 21 April 2013, playing two minutes in a 1-0 win at Sevilla FC after replacing the Koke youth graduate. Again from the bench, he appeared in his second league game with a major squad on May 4, against Deportivo de La CoruÃÆ'Â ± a (0-0).
On 21 July 2013, SaÃÆ'ºl signed a contract with Rayo Vallecano on a long-term loan deal. Upon his return, he appeared on both legs of Supercopa de Espaà ± a 2014 where Atlà © ricico beat Real Madrid, starting in the first game.
In the Madrid derby on February 7, 2015, SaÃÆ'ºl replaced the injured Koke after ten minutes, and scored his team's second shortly after a bicycle kick, eventually winning 4-0. From campaign 2015-16 onwards, after the departure of Mario Suarez and injured Tiago Mendes, he became a nuclear nuclear element for a team led by Diego Simeone.
On April 27, 2016, SaÃÆ'ºl played 85 minutes in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final against FC Bayern Munich, and also scored the only goal at Vicente CalderÃÆ'³n Stadium after individual efforts. Next April 18, in the same competition but in the last eight stages, he netted through a rare header to help a 1-1 draw at Leicester City (2-1 aggregate win); also in that month, in an interview given to Diario AS, he claimed to have played for "two seasons" in a very painful state.
On July 1, 2017, SaÃÆ'ºl signed a new nine-year contract.

International career
SaÃÆ'ºl get 47 caps for Spain, all levels of youth composed. On May 26, 2015, he was called to the full side for a friendly with Costa Rica and the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifier against Belarus, but did not make his debut on either chance; he, Sergio Rico and Lucas VÃÆ'¡zquez are three players who have not been included in the provisional squad for the last tournament in France, but he was eventually cut with Isco.
SaÃÆ'ºl made his full debut on September 1, 2016, playing 15 minutes in a friendly 2-0 win in Belgium. He was named the top scorer in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, mainly scoring a hat-trick to help defeat Italy 3-1 in the semi-finals.
Back with a full side, SaÃÆ'ºl was selected by manager Julen Lopetegui for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Personal life
SaÃÆ'ºl comes from a football family: his father, JosÃÆ'Â © Antonio, played several years with Elche CF - including the 1984-85 season in the top division - as a striker. His brothers, AarÃÆ'³n and Jonathan, are also soccer players.
