Milk-Bone is a brand of dog biscuits. It was created in 1908 by F. H. Bennett Biscuit Company, which operates a bakery on the Lower East Side of New York City. Originally named Maltoid , biscuits are bone-shaped foods made from minerals, meat products, and milk. Sometimes between 1915 and 1926, the biscuits were named "Milk-Bones", due to the high composition of cow's milk. In 1931, the bakery was acquired by the National Biscuit Company (now Nabisco). Biscuits are Bennett's only product carried over after the acquisition.

Over the next few decades, Milk-Bone expanded to include a number of different flavors, such as chicken and beef. The marketing focus also shifts from Milk-Bone which only becomes dog food for products that promote cleaner teeth and better breath. Nabisco, under ownership of Kraft Foods, sold Milk-Bone rights to Del Monte Foods in May 2006.

Del Monte Foods renames pet products division Big Heart Pet Brands. The division is separated in 2014 to create Del Monte Pacific Limited.

On February 3, 2015, J.M. Smucker Company announced the acquisition of Big Heart Pet Brands.

Biscuits are made exclusively in Buffalo, New York.

A box of the Milk-Bone dish made an initial product appearance in the 1924 silent movie The Tomboy . And that is the basis for one of the most memorable lines of the TV sitcom Cheers, spoken by George Wendt Norm's character: "This is a dog-eat-dog world and I'm wearing Milk-Bone outfits."
