Disbursement (or liquefaction ) is melting the object or bringing the device temperature above freezing to remove ice.

The procedure of cleaning the ice flower is generally carried out periodically on the refrigerator and freezer to maintain the efficiency of its operation. Over time, when the door is opened and closed, allowing new air, moisture from the air condenses on the cooling element inside the cabinet.

The resulting ice inhibits heat transfer from the cabinet which increases operating costs. Furthermore, when ice accumulates, it takes increasing space from inside the cabinet - reducing the space available for food storage. Unfreeze units achieved by: -

  • Delete all the food from the closet.
  • Turns off the power to the unit.
  • Leaving door to unit open
  • Waiting for the ice to melt and drain properly. Using a towel is recommended when completing this step.

This process may be accelerated by mechanical removal of ice, or the introduction of soft heat into the cabinet. Placing a pot of hot water in the closet and closing it is an effective method. Using a fan to blow air in room temperature will greatly speed up the melting process as well as help evaporate the wet surface. Note that the quickest manual is to use a vacuum cleaner: just insert the hose into the exhaust port (almost everything is designed for this), and use a stick to blow the coil; this method is much faster than the others.

Mechanical ice removal must be done gently so that the equipment is not damaged.

It is generally recommended that the melting of ice flowers should be done every year.

Many new units use automatic liquefaction (often called "free of frost" or "no ice") and do not require manual liquefaction in normal use. Although, in some cases, users of the Frost Free refrigerator/freezer have recorded ice blocking vents that allow air to enter the refrigerator. All refrigerators and/or freezers whether ice-free or not, should be melted at least every 6 months (or more if you live in humid conditions or if the door is opened excessively). Frost Free units should be liquefied every year, as frost can form on the evaporator cover, which may look unsightly and degrade the performance of freezing, sometimes to the point of freezer melting due to degradation of ice melting. This can happen when the liquefaction timer is not set properly/not working or if the heating unit or temperature sensor is not working.
