The term "scan when needed" refers to the possibility of performing manual scans (by users) across computers/devices, while "access-time scanning" refers to the ability of the product to scan each file automatically in the creation and/or subsequent modification.
The term "CloudAV" refers to the ability of a product to automatically perform a scan on the cloud.
The term "Email Security" refers to email protection from viruses and malware, while "AntiSpam" refers to the protection of spam, fraud, and phishing attacks.
The term "Web protection" typically includes protection from: infected and malicious URLs, phishing websites, online identity protection (privacy), and online banking protection.
Many antivirus products use "third party antivirus engines", this means that the antivirus engine is created by other producers, but malware signatures and/or other parts of the product can (or may not) be done from the owner of the product themselves.
