Company history
Originally named Rock Solid by founder Dave Lane, the company's first product line was climbing equipment. Then-the principal Jeremy Guard changed the company's name to "Arc'teryx" in 1990 to reflect the company's vision of creating an annoying "evolution" innovation in the outdoor products industry. Using thermolamination technology, the partners design and market the Vapor harness, which will be the most popular item in the company. In 1993, after a series of relocations and staff additions, Arc'teryx released the Bora backpack using the same Vapor technology. In 1996, after obtaining a license from W. L. Gore & amp; Partners for using Gore-Tex fabrics, the company adapted it to a new line of outdoor technical outfits.
Requiring a larger production space, the company moved its headquarters to Burnaby, British Columbia, in 1999. In 2005, Arc'teryx headquarters moved back across Burrard Inlet to North Vancouver. Their products are usually associated with climbing, skiing, snowboarding, backpacking, and hiking.
The guard was the president and head of the company from 1991 to 2001. In January 2001, Arc'teryx was purchased by Adidas's Salomon Group. In May 2005, Amer Sports purchased the Salomon Group from Adidas. Arc'teryx headquarters is still located in North Vancouver, although equipment, backpacks, and many other laminate equipment are manufactured at its own plant in New Westminster, BC. Their line of clothing has grown, so Arc'teryx has been converted to factories in China, Philippines, Vietnam, Bangladesh, El Salvador, Laos, and Greece.
